Frequently Asked Questions

Question #1: What is the age range of the children served at the Monarch School of New England (MSNE)?

Answer: We serve children from 5 to 21

Question #2: Does the MSNE provide outside services, such as training for parents of children with severe disabilities in their own homes?

Answer:  Our staff provide training for current MSNE students within their homes upon parent request, in order to facilitate ongoing care and carryover of therapeutic services into daily family life.

Question #3: Does the MSNE provide intervention and testing outside of school?

Answer:  The purpose of the Monarch School of New England Collaborative Team is to provide support to existing Public School Programs to facilitate appropriate evaluation and interventions by their own staff. On occasion,  MSNE has provided testing that the sending school district did not have the expertise to fulfil. This is accessed through the IEP process within the sending district.

Question #4: What is the process for a student to be sent to the school?

Answer: Initial contact is made by the parent or sending school district when there is concern that the public school might be unable to provide an appropriate special education program in the least restrictive environment. MSNE materials are sent to the parents and district, and a visit to our school is strongly suggested.

During that visit, the program director, teachers, and therapists are available to answer questions, and a tour is conducted. The MSNE application process includes a thorough records review and complete medical clearance. An IEP meeting is then called by the parents and/or the district to discuss concerns and options, which could include placement.

The student's current team is invited to visit in order to determine appropriateness of placement during this decision making process. Upon invitation, MSNE staff visit the potential student in his/her current school program, to assure the student is an appropriate candidate for our programs. Final decision to enroll is through the IEP/placement process.
